Read and search accounting standards
This site helps students read and search the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Accounting Standards Codification® (Basic View). You can browse topics, follow paragraph citations, and look up defined terms. Use it for study and research, and check the official source before relying on a standard.
How citations work
A paragraph citation has four parts: Topic–Subtopic–Section–Paragraph. For example, 606-10-25-1 points to Topic 606 (“Revenue from Contracts with Customers”), Subtopic 10 (“Overall”), Section 25 (“Recognition”), paragraph 1.
Use 606-10-25 to cite the whole section, or 606-10 to cite the subtopic. Click a paragraph number to select it and copy its citation. You can also copy the page address to share a link to that paragraph.
Section numbers identify the same kind of content across subtopics:
| No. | Section |
|---|---|
| 00 | Status |
| 05 | Overview and Background |
| 10 | Objectives |
| 15 | Scope and Scope Exceptions |
| 20 | Glossary |
| 25 | Recognition |
| 30 | Initial Measurement |
| 35 | Subsequent Measurement |
| 40 | Derecognition |
| 45 | Other Presentation Matters |
| 50 | Disclosure |
| 55 | Implementation Guidance and Illustrations |
| 60 | Relationships |
| 65 | Transition and Open Effective Date Information |
An S before a section number, as in S99, marks Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) content. These sections carry an “SEC” badge. They contain SEC guidance included in the Codification, rather than FASB standards.
Pending content
A highlighted “Pending content” block shows an issued change that is not yet effective for all entities. It appears beside the text it changes. Check Section 65 for the effective dates and transition rules that apply to the entity and period you are studying.
Summaries, concepts, and categories
The summaries, “In brief” boxes, concepts, and category tags are machine-generated study aids. They may contain errors or leave out important details. Read the source paragraphs to check each summary. These aids are not part of the Codification.
Adjust the reader
Open Reading settings in the header to choose a light or dark theme, contrast, text size, reading width, and alignment. Reading mode hides the side panels so you can focus on the page. Your browser saves these choices for your next visit.
